You have visited the website of our beautiful and picturesque town located at the foot of the Bohemian-Moravian
Highlands. The precise date of establishment of our town is unknown but the first mention of it dates back to the year 1267.
The Lords of Bechyně, the Benešovec Family, were the first verifiable owners. The planting of the lime tree of Kamenice,
which is the attribute to the town name, is dated to the 1st half of the 13th century. The title "town" was granted to
Kamenice in 1462 through the right of Henry of Stráž.
Kamenice nad Lipou
is located at 561 metres above sea level, the coordinates being 49°15'of latitude north and 15°04'of longitude east.
The town has 4 200 inhabitants.
The chateau in its present form from the year 1842 when it was rebuilt by the last of its owners - the Family of Geymüller
- is the dominant of the town and its square. A memorable lime tree grows in the chateau garden. Other town's monuments
and dominants include the church at Husovo Square. The forest cemetery Bradlo with the Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene is a
European point of interest. Another object of interest in Kamenice is the narrow-gauge railway line Jindřichův Hradec -
Kamenice nad Lipou - Obrataň with the preserved operation of a steam locomotive.
